Action Thread #1: Morning in Paris

Requine

Requineverse DM-in-chief
Game Master
Hello players, this (bold, dark red text) is my official, serious business DM voice.

Please read the following threads:
For an explanation of how an OPERATION works, please check out this thread: http://thelowerworld.com/index.php?threads/what-is-an-operation.660/

Here are some quick clarifications for this specific campaign:

1) What sort of 'action' can I take?
Anything within the range of your character's ability. There are several prompts in the Venetian Report, but you do not have to take them. If your character would pursue a different course of action, talk to a friend in the city, etc., then that's fine and you can submit an approach that makes sense for your character.
2) If someone has 'claimed' a NPC, does that mean I can't talk to them?
No. Multiple people can talk to the same NPC - and might get very different results based off their faction, their approach, or their personality. Don't feel like if someone has taken an action, you can't do the same thing.

3) Can I team up with other players?
Yes, but talk to the player about it, and once you come to an agreement, just let me know that you'll be rolling as a group/team.

4) Can I backstab other players?
While you can act negatively towards other characters, there's no controlling the consequences that could ensue...

5) How long will this Action Thread be open?
As long as it needs to be. I'll be leaving it open for a week at least to make sure people have a shot at getting in. Furthermore, a player can jump into an OPERATION at any time - missing Action Thread #1 does not mean you can't enter in on Action Thread #2

6) I didn't sign up in the Interest Check. Can I still participate?
Yes! This OPERATION is open to all players*
*If you are in a RP heavy cabal please check with an officer to avoid canon confusion

Alright, players - you get the call that Paris is open for investigation.

Starting MONDAY THE 24th, you are free to post your action

Russell K. Kobayashi

Senior Investigator, Council of Venice
Moderator
Russell adjusted his sunglasses as he stepped out of the Louvre. In high-end business casual clothes, he was just one more professional on the street during the lunch hour, and that would serve him best.

Touching base with the local Venetian office was worthwhile from a political standpoint, but they weren't able to tell him much he didn't already know. There were several other stops on his mental list -- this so-called "Coven of Paris," the Administration Office, even that superannuated relic Savoy -- but his first instinct was to talk to the local badge, and for her sins, Duval was the closest thing.

He glanced at his phone as he walked. There was one other person an acquaintance implied he should speak with... Taking a deep breath, he keyed in the mobile number for Valerie Xi.

Flipping through the last page of the report Isa looked up "the whole world is in a tailspin of problems. What makes the events in Paris more important than Tokyo or even America?"

"Tell me dear Isa, when our brothers decided to establish the beach head on Normandy did they stop to think why. No, they knew in what they were doing was to liberate a neighbor from the clutches of an evil madman. Now we find ourselves once again cleaning the world of more filth and debris." She let Sonnac continue on for several minutes. Learning to let her surpiours go on about with long drawn out speeches and the like. "Furthermore it is your duty to provide help and to render judgement."

"Of course sir. I shall leave at once"

Returning to our office just on the outskirts of Ealdwic. She gathered up several items that could be useful in Paris. Perched under her arm she held the file Sonnac had provided her, a picture of the person she was to seek out, one Halette Narcisse.

Ian and Marsyas went over Grant's report one more time, an open bottle of Traminer on the table between them.
Bunking with the Greek agent had seemed like a good idea, until he had glanced at the hotel's website and noticed that the suite they were sharing costed more than his monthly income. Per day. Even if it was Geary and the Lumies paying the bill, Ian was still extra cautious when handling anything fragile in the room.

He handed Marsyas a page. "This Rook place seems interesting, but the mole, Jay Thomas, is a Lumie guy. I don't know how much he'd open up if I talked to him."
"So you want me to tackle him, huh? I'll give it a spin." The short, wiry Greek tapped a phrase at the end of the report. "These Romani, they sound like they'll be a good asset. They know the undercity well."
Ian nodded. "True, but I think we need more info before tapping on Ludious' Champs Elysée Irregulars.. I'll go see what Brittany Duval knows about this salacious beast, and then we can form a proper plan."

Marsyas tapped the sheets of the report together and filed them away. "Then it's settled. We adjourn in the evening."
"If the city doesn't blow up first."

Jericho Blake

Illuminated Agent
Moderator
Jericho Blake arises early as always, and takes advantage of the gym at the Four Seasons George V hotel. Afterwards he gets ready for business. First steps are to contact both Blue agents in the city. But first... he should talk to Duval. Calls herself a sheriff, she may as well meet a real gunfighter. He also promised he'd look at the tracks in the sewers...

Willow

Dread Wolf, Kindred, Eturnal Hunter
She would be easily over looked four foot nine, blending in with the teenagers of the historic city, sailing down the streets on her skateboard, white hair tucked in her hoody jacket. She had not seen this place more than a few times, and then she was busy watching Lion king on a sofa not seeing the grimy undercity. It would not be hard for her to talk to the local Romani, seeing she was still considered one of the family.

For now Willow was just observing, red albino eyes hidden behind sunglasse. She would come and go only the observant would see her lurking and watching. Sitting on old red brick walls eating a candy bar watching the big three at work as they pieced together and locked down the offending area.

Willow didn’t need to head down into the sewers, or grime, yet not when everyone was quick to do it for her. Watching the lockdown, as different bee and none bee strike teams assembled. Those who know her may recognize her, as she keep track of the progress.

Asmod

Owner of Saints and Sinners
Asmod is going to try and look into where the sentient nonhumans lie in the city of Paris. And give Valerie Xi a call while he's at it.

Nickoli Vandask, after arriving a day earlier at the Paris HQ of the CoV in the Louvre, proceeded to speak with his fae contact in the area. A young refugee named Erika from the late court of Lilacs. After finding out about possible Rvenant activity killing her roommate, and other monsters driving her and other fae from the catacombs underneath the city, he offers her a place to stay back at HQ, as opposed to the slum she had found herself in. As she went through the process all witnesses had to go through in to CoV, Nick found he could not sleep. He donned the ragged clothes of a much poorer man and went back to Erikas neighborhood to see if he could observe any occult activity, or find a nearby catacomb entrance and go exploring in the first hours of the Parisian morning.

Alice Glenisle

Alice had arrived in Paris a week earlier. She'd checked into an elegant and luxurious room at the Hotel de Crillon (where all rooms were elegant and luxurious) and proceeded to spend the whole week shopping.

Once simply cannot visit Paris and not shop.

As predicted, after a week even Paris' boutiques had started to lose their appeal and Alice was finally ready for work.

Her interns were glad to return to New York with the most of Alice's bounty.

Alice settled herself at her desk and considered the leads. She tapped a finger against her chin and picked up her phone.

She started at the top, and arranged a meeting with Antoine Savoy.

Jessa knelt to let Mr Whiskers out from his travel crate, or rather, she opened the wire door and waited until the Russian Blue decided that he'd like to step out. He did so after a moment's consideration, yawning and stretching his long body after a day in cramped conditions. Jessa reached in the crate to pick out Mr Whisker's CatEyePhone and the slim power bank that kept the phone charged all way from the States. Mr Whiskers' game of Chase the Mouse was still running on the phone. He yawned at her before cleaning his ears.

"Okay." She nodded and scrolled through the active apps. The CoV report was there and she scanned through it slowly. "Okay. I see Brittany Duval. That's who you want to talk to? Okay." She stared at the cat. Who stared back. "Oh! Yes, I should call her office. Okay." She did so.

Catelyn

New Member
Catelyn Eames arrives in Paris with one suitcase, one battered guitar case and a forced smile. She checks into the extravagant hotel room afforded her by her superiors and heads downstairs to the café to get coffee and pastries while she re-reads the latest Venetian Report and plans her first move.

An obvious first step will be to check in with her good friend, Knight-Captain Havelock, even if only to say hey and let her know that she's on the city if needed. She recognizes Xi from the battle outside Vegas and makes a note to visit her, as she may have caught a glimpse of whatever attacked her. Also promising are the witch doctor and Ludious' underground network of Romani. The people most likely to have had first hand contact with whatever is menacing the people of Paris. She decides to avoid the law for now, as her affiliation may make her a target of suspicion among the "Old Guard". Having planned her next move, she sends off a quick message to Cass and waits.

Rhoswen

New Member
Rhoswen Evans has already been in Paris for just over a week, having requested a transfer to the city both to help the innocent of Paris and to forget about her recent troubles. She is reporting to Antoine Savoy, who surprisingly enough seems to have taken a liking to her, or at least to view her with a bit less distaste than others.

She plans to check in with Savoy first, both to report any new findings or sightings during her patrols and to inquire about any new leads. She will also check in with Knight-Captain Havelock and Brittany Duval, to offer her assistance in any ongoing investigations and to check in on anything new that may have come up.

Ludious

New Member
Ludious continues his watch over the Romani underground. He sends out the coordinates of the community to Knight-Captain Havelock and focuses on training Inerique, the unaffiliated Romani Bee. His network of Romani intelligence across the city brings in continuous reports of various disappearances, some at the same time in different parts of the city. Whatever is roaming the underground, it's bigger than one thing. He forwards all reports he receives back to Havelock.

Mat arrived in Paris last week, hired by the CoV. He gathered annotated plans from the Catacombs, translated them in English, and forwarded them to the CoV, Havelock, Eames and Blake, asking to forward them to every agent that could need them.
He came back this monday on the morning, at 6:30AM, eyes still red, head still hurting like hell, breathe still smelling like a mix between whisky and expansive wine. After his breakfast, daily morning training, and every stuff, he'll try to visit Halette Narcisse. He now looks (and smells) a bit fresher, wearing casual clothes, but his eyes are still red-ish and have bags under them.

Ilana Val'khor

New Member
Ilana Val'khor arrives on Monday, somewhere around noon. It's not that clear where she's staying. So many things are different: Neither her car (that would have been like a pink-green version of the Pussy Wagon from Kill Bill) nor her bike are seen in town. Ilana herself is dressed... differently too. Instead of hotpants and a wild pink mane, she wears decent black clothes, Chanel, elegant without the need to attract any attention. Even her pink hair is bound back strictly to a knot. She could be any fashion chick from the town.

The warrior had taken a look at the recent report from Venice. Valerie Xi, there's a bell ringing in her head. She'd love to meet her for a coffee. But there's something else to do first: visiting Montmatre, the hill with all the artists, drawing pictures on the streets. Rumour has it there's a small boy, the son of one of the artists, who draws some 'special pictures'. You want to see the truth? Use the eyes of a child. Especially when the rumour has a hint of 'supernatural' in it. It's said the kid was sick. Some mental illness. Other sources talk of visions though...

Arriving in Paris Yumi already missed the sights and sounds of her familiar Seoul. She closed her Nintendo DS slipping it into her back pocket and removed her headphones as she waited for her luggage at the carousel. Her eyes glanced at all the people as they gathered, snatching up their own bags busy with their own agendas. Blowing a bubble with her gum she continued to wait, checking the reservation on her phone for directions to her hotel as she sent out a quick tweet “Anyone fun want to help me in Paris? It seems I need to actually do some real work for once...” She grabbed up her bag and headed for the door while she waited to see what would happen.

What HAS Edith been up to?
The past 10 days Edith has been busy. Gathering maps and info on the underground. She’s combining official city maps with historical documents, going far and wide to get bits and pieces like an illuminated manuscript of the recollections of monk from the 1300’s etc. Another avenue she’s been working is getting interviews with Parisian urban explorers. With the explorers she’s very specifically been trying to get directions to ‘no go’ places as well as recent incidents and changes in the underground etc. She’s had this all put together into a 3-D viewable map that shows the relationships of all the levels together.

Today- Edith sips her coffee rereading the packet from Venice. She makes some notes and then makes some calls. Valerie Xi and Brittany Duval tops her list for today. She pencils in Jay Thomas but then sends some personal messages to a few agents she knows is in Paris with her, Jericho Blake and Anna Maris. She sits back with a satisfied look and then sends out a general inquiry via twitter.-

She sat crossed legged within the center of a great geometric figure that spiraled out to arms reach, each angle curving inward to add to its imperceptible complexity. Her fingers worked a pen along the rough contours of the floor around her, further adding, further refining the model. Was it a premonition?

Her blue hair bounced along with her body as she bounced on the hard wood floor, her body surrounded by the constant pressure of heavy bass that pressed from all sides like sonic g-forces. She swam within a sea of bodies illuminated by black fluorescent lighting that caused their clothes and bodies to glow, each speckle of glitter shining like a star, each cum-stain on their clothing worn like a badge of honor.

She surveyed the geometrics. How curious. Paris? She tilted her head sideways, looking at it from a slightly askew angle.

She was surrounded by fire. Like music it rippled against her sweat-slick skin. She stood in the middle of a conflagration, the air filled with the scent of charred wood and cooking flesh. She heard a whimper beneath her. Her foot fell on the person's trachea, silencing him for good. They had asked for a party starter. Things were getting dull. That's why she came. That's why she would come. To start the party. Why were things so boring all the time?

She stretched her arm outward and began drawing a wide angle that intercut with the geometric figure. Was she thinking about past events? Did this happen to her before? Or was this yet to happen? When she was in the models, it sometimes was difficult to reference points in time. Where was she in it? Where? She had to find an anchor, something or someone to attach herself to. She continued to write.

Nikoe spotted Catelyn drinking her coffee in the cafe in Paris. A wave of relief cascaded over her. Nikoe picked herself up off the ground where she sat and made her way to her. She walked through the crowded busy street, her cause and effect weaving between automobile and pedestrian. Nikoe sat down opposite Cat and smiled. <Hello.> she signed. She was here. She didn't know why yet, but her path was set. There was no stopping it now.

Mathildia has arrived in Paris as well, taking her time to get to know the city as well as collecting maps for areas of interest. She has chosen to rent an apartment over a hotel room and her arrival has been largely discreet and subtle. As she tours Paris, she makes notes of the shops, newspapers and tries to gather rumours about the missing people.

Finally, she would report in to Antoine Savoy as a Templar from London and ask him about the gist of the situation.
