New York City An Interrupted Stroll

Collapsible Myth

The Cake is a Lie

Stepping out into the cold air, her breath visible. "Enjoy your walk Ms. Yamada." Jonathon the doorman cheerily said to her. Digging her hands into the deep pockets of her coat. Something she had recently bought as the weather turned colder. The bustling sidewalk was filled with people. Business men and women going off to their jobs. Tourists staring in awe to the architecture of the buildings. Their gaze directed above as phones and camera's pointed in vain attempts of artistic expressions. The others that angrily pushed through the crowd, the native or the people that called New York City home. Making her way into the crowd, blending into the throng of humanity.

The trip to Central Park was short only for this day it took a bit longer than usual. The holidays was on everyone's mind. The Salvation Army bell ringers filling the air with the incessant ringing. Waiting with the large group of people. The cabs beeping their horns as traffic was building "yes, that helps them move" Zoe thought to herself watching one cabbie in particular. His flailing arms comically animated as she could actually see his face become a darker red. The frustrations he was going through lifted her spirits. His cursing to the block of vehicles before him only causing the others to shout back to him or to fling their hands out the windows. Offering to no one in particular the middle finger. The walk sign illuminated, sending everyone that had been waiting to begin streaming into the cross walk.

Fresh snow crunched underfoot. Her trip through parts of the least traveled paths through the park afforded her a more private experience. The trees bare of leaves. Their stoic frames breaking the grey skies. Everything felt better. ignoring the biting cold Zoe sat down on a bench. Watching people walk past. Couples hand in hand, huddling together down the paths. Looking out over the white snow, Zoe felt calm. Everything had its place during this time of year. She watched as a man dressed in a very loose fitting Santa suit stumble down the path. His face a mask of complete drunkenness. The suit dingy from whatever this man had slept in. The white trimming had become a light grey, interspersed with dark stains with what Zoe could only guess as to what it was. "holy shit...I would love to..hey baby.." his speech a slurred mess of rambling words "Why don't you come sit on me and tell Santa I like to fuck ya." Her patience with this waste of a human long gone as it had never existed in the first place, Standing up to leave the drunk Santa behind "yeah, fuck you bitch. fucking carpet muncher anyway you bitch." she paid him only a small glance over her shoulder as she walked off.

Making her way into a more secluded section. The trees becoming numerous as their bare branches joining together in an attempt to block out the sky. Thankful in leaving the useless dredge far behind her. His insults silent to her. The air hung still, the noises of the world muffled out. Losing herself in the serene silence. The path weaved itself through the woods. coming to a tunnel Zoe had let her senses reach out for anything. Knowing that many of the predators preferred the tunnels of Central Park to commit their crimes. Mr. Rothcraft had always kept an eye to those around him and only just previously informed her of the dangers hidden within the park. Her experiences in life from her earliest childhood memories to the present had already tainted her view to the human race. They all were placed into a category of mostly useless. Pawns that could be used when the need or opportunity arose. There were only few that had been lifted to a place close to her. The ally, friends Zoe had learned to look to. Two people see saw as more but those emotions only confused her. Lost in her thoughts she didn't view the man that had walked by her as something non-threatening. Her morning walk was interrupted by the thick arms wrapping around her throat and waist. "Fucking scream and I'll slit your throat." Anger rose up, mostly to this man that had not only touched her but to think she was some helpless woman. No one touched her. Not only from her anxiety of others but to not trust people. He shoved her into the wall of the tunnel. Her face pressed into the cold stone. Feeling the stone open her cheek under his weight on her "gimmie your cash and cards" She felt him press himself onto her. Closing her eyes she reached out mentally. His heart pumping quickly. His blood coursing through his veins like a swiftly moving river. His body stiffened, she found the veins of his face being the closest to the skin an easy point of penetration. Knowing her newly found skills of blood magic both exhilarating and powerful. Her lessons under the eyes of both Wake and Mr. Rothcraft the start as she had read the well-worn book Maya have given her during one of their brunches. This world of blood excited her. Playing off her anxiety with others fueled this new found path.

Controlling his blood flow within his limbs, the confusion within his eyes broke off into fear. The predator turned prey. "Disgusting...vile pig..." Zoe's own heart pounded within her chest as she stared to her attacker. This would be mugger brought to his knees as she recovered herself. The cuts on her face closing "today isn't your day....you...put your...hands on me and...you’re a disgusting...thief..." her voice shaky as the exertion of her fresh skills show. Zoe moved quickly, reaching into her coat. Removing her pistol she screwed the silencer onto the barrel "You'll never learn from this lesson" stepping back. she pulled the trigger. Controlling the back spray of blood from the entry wound to stay within his head. Not caring about the other side of his head. His blood and pieces of brain splattered across the sidewalk away from her. Returning her pistol and silencer back into the shoulder holster "another useless human mugger. A waste." she thought to herself taking careful steps around him. Pulling any of the blood that attached itself to the bottoms of her shoes. Waving her hand in the practiced motions as the pooling blood moved to erase any traces of her steps. Pulling her coat tight against her, Zoe took a deep breath before she
continued on her walk through the park.
