Anastasia Steele

Collapsible Myth

The Cake is a Lie
Retired Admin
The alarms blared as people panicked within the labs, running from the invisible danger that slowly filled the now sealed room. "Damnit, open the doors!" cries of pleas towards the armored Orochi troops standing just on the other side of the transparent doors fell on deaf ears. In the instance of an accidental release of the contagion the lab would go through an immediate lock down sealing off all air vents, hermetically sealing every port, electrical, and seal to ensure that nothing escapes.

"You know the protocol’s Henry." Already Anastasia began to feel the effects of the contagion they were working on "Even if the doors were opened they are ordered to ensure no one is to remain alive."

Pressing her hands against the side of her head the pain already throbbing through her brain she doubled over onto the polished floor. Already her other co-workers laid dead their dark grey workcoats covered in their own blood, their eyes staring blankly towards the door. As she gasped for air Anastasia tried to push herself onto her side. The remaining thought of lying face down in a pool of her own blood was undignified.

The intense pain of hunger brought Anastasia back into consciousness. She slowly rose into a sitting position waiting for her eyes to adjust to the dark. "What the hell?" her voice hoarse and her throat burned. Thoughts quickly ran through her analytical mind "I'm alive. How? This isn't possible." Shakily rising to her feet she stumbled towards where the door of the lab was, tripping over one of the bodies of her fellow co-worker, slamming her shoulder against a nearby table before landing with a heavy thud on the floor. Cursing and instinctively grabbing her shoulder "god damnit!" she wheezed out realizing that her shoulder felt fine. There wasn't any pain shooting through her from the fall "This isn't possible." Standing again only this time she carefully moved through the lab, shuffling her feet as to not trip over another dead body.

Her eyes had adjusted to the darkness; faint outlines of tables lined her path. Making her way to the doors she expected her fingers to make contact with the cold glass but as she continued she found herself past the threshold and in the hallway. "Hello" her voice still hoarse but echoed in the deathly quiet. "How long have I been out?" she thought. Moving down the hallway she passed several bodies, the smell of rot bringing the hunger pain back. Without thinking Anastasia kneeled down next to the closest body, her fingers greedily tearing away cloth to expose the waiting flesh of this person's arm. Bringing it up to her mouth she sunk her teeth into the loose flesh. Satisfying the hunger she feasted for several minutes.

Covered in blood and gore she raised to her feet once more, feeling revived without a thought as to what she had just done "Great, just perfect." Anastasia looked around now that she could see in the dark. Around her several more bodies laid sprawled out where they had fallen. A few armored Orochi troops had tried to make a stand, their backs against the far wall of the lobby down the hall. The walls of the hallway were punctured with bullet holes from the troops; perhaps a volley from the panicked troopers had damaged the labs quarantine systems. Feeling much better Anastasia walked towards the lobby her senses no longer dulled by the hunger she stopped momentarily. Listening to the stillness, nothing could be heard, no movement of air from the environmental systems. Only the slight creak of the outside facade of the building could be heard. "Why am I the only survivor...er...not dead dead." she thought, patting her pockets she found her cell phone. The device was dead "Not good. I must've been out or dead, no. Damnit! I'm alive...ish. Okay Ana calm down and think. I know my phone had a full charge meaning I've been here for three days and by the condition of the lab Orochi must have disavowed the site in that time."

Rummaging through the pockets of one of the troopers she found his ID, a pack of cigarettes and nothing much else of value. She gathered the weapons left behind along with the remaining magazines. One of the troopers had brought with her two grenades Anastasia took them, taking care to not blow herself up not knowing if her current condition would keep her alive in pieces. Putting everything into the salmon purse of the receptionist that worked there in the lobby, finding the bag under the desk where the receptionist left it.

The entrance of the building was partially blocked from the steel barrier that would have normally sealed the entrance. Sliding through the small opening Anastasia found herself outside in the cool night air. Her shoulders tensed when she saw the six mute monks of the Dragon surround the entrance "Was this part of your..." her body fell to the ground, being knocked unconscious from one of the monks that had moved without sound towards her.
