[RP:1] Welcome to Hemlock Falls

As if on cue, Marcos wanders around behind the group, trying to catch a bar or two. Judging by how quickly he pockets his phone — and by the muttering — he doesn't have much luck.

Oh well. No last-minute downloading of Pokémon Go.

When he looks back up to find half of his group walking in opposite directions, he's at a bit of a loss. Hm. Hmmm.

Well, since he couldn't take that five-second crash course in Pokémon, chatting up those youths probably isn't the best of ideas. And, if he's being honest with himself, one hour of bushwhacking is more than enough for him. Which leaves... coffee? Yes, coffee sounds nice.

After nodding and smiling a greeting to Sarah -- and waving a goodbye to his teammates -- he sets off for Rosie's Diner.

((OOC: I'll try to have my reply up in the new thread by tomorrow night!))

Sarah nods to Molly. "Not exactly a one-horse town - more likely to have more horses than people, certainly more horses than cars?" She laughs, then says "Actually, we're not one of those towns. More cows 'n cars, though. You a small-town girl yourself?"

Marcos gets a polite nod, and Sarah says to Molly "If I'm keeping you from being someplace...?"

"Uhh, no, I'm good. Don't need coffee after drinking an energy drink, right?" She nervously laughs. "Yah, I grew up in a small town. Little bit bigger than this. Less mountains, more gators."

James shrugs. Between pokémon and policemen this is probably the most sensible of the conversations he's heard today. He leans back and waits for something useful. He sure as hell isn't chasing teenagers with mythical digital creatures.

He may live on the cusp of odd but there was a limit...

The teens walked up to join the group, attracted by the mention of Pokemon and the fact that Sarah was treating the newcomers as friendly. There were three boys and two girls, all white except one of the boys, who was black, all dressed in a peculiar mix of brand new shoes, faded jeans, and what looked like the height of '90s fashion - probably hand-me-downs from older siblings or other families around town.

They all started talking more or less at the same time, voices overlapping and trying to get heard over the others.
"Come on, Sarah, you make it sound like we're living in the Oregon trail! We do have cars!"
"I've got Pokémon X on the 3DS. Can't play Go. Mom won't let me have a phone."
"More than horses, anyway. And what do you know anyway? You sit in that tower all day! You don't even have wifi up there!"
"What'd you need a phone up here anyway, stupid? There's signal in two parts of town!"
"You don't actually believe that story about the old tree, right? It's just a tree! It's a stupid story."
"No, you're stupid!"
"Wait, who you're calling stupid? Me or Derek?"
"Both!"

Diana ponders for a moment. She doesnt have too much info to give on this conversation she would look to Klaus whom she was beside then to the others "Hmm I'm not one for coffee but I'm sure they have got food which I really need right now.." trying to hide her accent slightly before moving to jon the couple people thay went to the diner

"Louisiana." Molly would repond just before the teens arrived. She watched the teens bicker among themselves, standing mostly quiet as they did.

Sarah seems to know all of the kids, but she singles out the one who mentioned the Oregon trail. In a mock-80's-computer-tone, she says "Derek has died of dysentry."

Mat has fazed out for a while, listening absently at the conversation.
He comes back to reality when he realizes there are many new voices he doesn't know about, frowning a little for a few seconds as he looks at everyone, taking everything in.

When he sees Sarah, he smiles a little -he always had a thing for women wearing flannel shirts- and steps in to extends his hand, not trying to hide his French accent at all.

"Hello, name's Mat. Sorry, I was... thinking, I guess" he shrugs and mumbles "feels like I forgot to bring something. So, from what I caught, you're gonna be our guide, right? Does coffee then campfire and campfire stories sounds good to you?"

Sarah turns her attention back to the newcomers - Derek and his friends are old news, after all. She nods to Mat's question. "If you want one, yes. This time of year, there's always stuff to do on the farms, and ..." She grins. "Hiking and sharing campfire stories sure beats tutoring this one in math." She jerks a thumb at ... well, maybe Derek, maybe the kid beside him. "Or treating squash for stinkbugs."

"Oh, so you're a math teacher and a member of the fire patrol, heh?" he grins playfully "Must be hell of a busy life." Mat then turns his attention toward the teens "Don't worry guys, I've always been awful in mathematics but I still became an engineer anyway" he winks.

His gaze comes back to Sarah "Should we?" he points toward the dinner and adds "I really need some coffee, and to clean my face" he chuckles. ((Mat's face looks a bit dirty after that))

She laughs and shakes her head. "Nah. Just enough older and got a decent enough grade to get suckered into 'summer school' tutoring duty. I'm hardly an engineer math type, more like business school stuff."

She nods to Mat, looks at Molly. "Even if you don't want coffee, you can set your pack down and take some weight off your feet. And Rosie bakes a mean pie." She frowns for a moment, thinking. "Though probably not a ... what's that N'Awleans thing? Not a bagel.... beignet?" She mispronounces beignet badly, but gives it an honest try.

He doesn't seem to understand what or where she's talking about, canting his head a little.
"I have no idea, never been to that place, wherever it is!" Mat shrugs a bit "Pie sounds good anyway." He starts walking toward Rosie's, then turns back to talk to the kids, with a friendly smile "If ya'all wanna come along, bill's on me."

"It's the least I can do for that charming welcome the city's offered, heh?" Mat grins and walks in Rosie's ((switching to the other topic))

The teens groan at the mention of math tutoring, then start chattering again among each other, apparently oblivious to the party of adults.
"If I'd known I'd have to study in the summer I would have gone to the high school in Lexington. At least I wouldn't have to do that and work in the garage."
"Please, like you could afford boarding in the city."
"I could, if I got paid for work rather than doing it for the family glory!"
"Your sister's doing her best-"

The magic words "bill's on me", however, interrupt the discussion and makes all their head turn in unison.
"Are you for real?"
"He means thank you," one of the girls slaps the black boy on the back of the head.
"Free pie! Can we get malts too?"
"Don't get greedy, Buck."
Still talking among each other, they follow Mat into the diner.
