Major updates are done! We've squashed the nastier bugs, but there are probably a few smaller ones still scurrying about. Send us a DM on Twitter (@lowerworldtsw) or to @Custodian/@Voltigeur on this site if you catch one!
We'll be tweaking the site's appearance and updating guides as the month goes on. :)
Mat puts his index on the smudge to try and feel what it could be, and slightly jumps back, frowning. He tries to act like nothing happened. The sensation kicked him right out of his transe.
"Who the hell is the filthy rapscallion touching books with dirty fingers?!"
Sarah looks up when Mat jumps, and when he speaks. She walks up towards the lectern as she speaks. "Father Graves won't be happy if someone's damaged the Bible."
"Yeah but I don't think Aaron would come to read the bible afterwards, would he?" Mat smiles a bit "It looks like it was left by someone following what they were reading with their finger, you know what I mean?"
Now Sarah comes to stand near the lectern and look at the bible. "No, not even Aaron would do something like that..."
It looks like she'll stand almost exactly where the shadow did. Not from an attempt to echo the shadow, but simply because she plans to look at the book on the lectern, and gee, that's the natural place to stand.
((Feel perfectly free to pose an attempt to stop her; I'll happily react to it.))
((If I'm wrong about where the shadow stood, please say so. But that's the impression I got.))
As soon as Mat thinks she's gonna touch it, he uses his diversion technique n°1. It is supposed to be used on skirts, but he'll have to make do.
He gathers all his powers, dropping everything that cloaked his nature until then (anything with a magical sense in a rather large area would feel 'WELP, THERE IS A BEE HERE.') and tries to summon a fairly strong wind, making it look like it came from the door toward them. Enough to take down Sarah's hat, and hopefully turn the pages of the book. He does this while standing behind Sarah, and the gestures he uses to channel his magic looks like he'd be trying to chase a fly away.
The lectern faces the main door, so the gust comes in from there. Sarah is standing facing the lectern, and thus the doors, so the wind blows her hat behind her.
She makes a probably-quite-embarassing girly yelp (Was that a girly scream, Mulder?), and turns to try to catch her hat. Fortunately for Mat she turns away from him, so by the time she's completed the turn he's completed his casting.
"Wow. Quite a blow there." She examines the toggle and cord for her hat, and then actually loops it through one of the belt loops on her pants, to make sure that even a strong breeze won't blow it away now.
She's thoroughly distracted from actually LOOKING at the bible now, anyway. Mission accomplished, get a bubbly little victory melody and some XP and gold.
((Editted an unnecessary sentence that established something I had no right to establish. My apologies. I'm still learning - aren't we all?))
She stands out in the front of the church for a minute or three, looking around in all directions, then comes back in with a puzzled look. She closes both doors, firmly, though only latching them - not locking them. Anyone should be able to enter the church any time, after all.
"Nothing. No gusts. It was just a freak weather effect." She shakes her head. "It's fine. A few clouds. Going to be a lovely day. Just a lovely day that decided to blow my hat halfway to Kendrick's Crossing."
Marcos takes a peek at the underlined psalm while Sarah is distracted and... wow. Hmm. That's some... inspiring stuff, there. Marcos twirls his beard in thought — and maybe a bit nervously — as he steps away from the lectern and looks again around the church. Whatever — whoever — left these marks on the pages is bound to have left some marks elsewhere.
Once Mathieu mentions the chipmunk, however, a mischievous grin splits Marcos's face.
"Maybe we should do this next," the young sailor says. "Or the chipmunk might let us get lost in the forest. Again."
She laughs and nods. "And it occurs to me that we could go along the Grouse walking path towards either the Firs or the campground - whichever your friends have chosen to do tonight - and have plenty of daylight to see several of the sights. Detour up to the radio tower, or visit the Harpes mansion."
She lifts a finger. "But first you're both absolutely right. We go back to the Hemlock and give gifts to Chipmunk."
((Marcos-player is fine with Mat and Sarah chattering on without him - he's got RL happening, poor guy.
So we're in the front area of the church and just talking. We're available to join other groups if you want us, but by staying here Marcos gets to put his 2c in whenever he can.))
Sarah laughs. "Even if you don't have a guitar?" She looks around, for a moment, then finds herself a landscaping rock that's just the right height and placement to be a seat, and even looks out onto the rest of the village. Appalachian furniture. She lifts one knee, and rests hands on it, chin on hands. Teenage flexibility - and comfort.
"So why would a rich boy like you take a trip into the wilds of Appalachia anyway? Anyone who can afford a house like yours should be able to ... " She thinks for a moment "... oh, I dunno. Go to a resort in Milan or southern France or someplace exotic like ... um ... like Australia!"
"The day's not over yet, I'll have a guitar, you'll see!" Mat grins and follows her, sitting beside her if there is enough room.
"A resort? Gosh. Ugh. You want me to die of boredom or something?" he laughs "Sure, I could go there, but what would I do? Swim in the swimming pool? I can do that at home." He shakes his head "Let's say I just like adventures, for the short version. We're so far away from our hunting and gathering ancestors, now it's supermarket, smartphones and pizza delivery. Of course I enjoy the comfort of civilization, don't get me wrong! But sometimes it feels good to challenge yourself a bit, I suppose?"
It's a big enough umbrella, but it's always me who ends up getting wet rock, so there's plenty of room.
She laughs. "I've never even seen the inside of a resort. The ads always seem to be all ... " She mimics a TV advertiser. "Excitement! Action! Adventure! Jetskis and bungee jumping and amazing food and soft beds and ... " She sighs. Drops back to her own voice. "I dunno. I guess maybe it would get boring." But maybe she'd like the opportunity to be bored like that.
He laughs at her advertiser parody "Never been there either to be honest. Having money is actually... Kinda new for me" he laughs "But yeah, it's not the kind of adventure I'm talking about. I think there's just too much to see to go into a closed area completely changed by humans to fit their comfort. Pretty sure even the birds here have been trained to not ever shit on your head!"
