[RP2] The trail to the radio tower

Sarah Whittaker

Well-Known Member
After tapping on the phone for a bit, Sarah makes it emit sound. She keeps it quiet, but on speaker rather than headphones. She holds up the phone "Anyone want to listen to what they're currently broadcasting?"

"If you do, I'll make it louder. Or I can give you the frequency, if you've got a radio app."

Sarah, and anyone else listening to the station, would catch the tail end of a country song, followed by a short ad for a bait and tackle shop in Kendrick's Crossing, and then by a pop son from the late '90s.

"I, umm, guess that would depend on how updated the equipment is, on if they use tapes." Molly responds to Marcos' question.

This place seems pretty much normal. It's frustrating and I keep thinking something is going to jump out and it's not happening!

Molly would finish up looking around, and assuming it was all normal then would rejoin the rest of the group, who appeared to be listening to the radio station on Sarah's phone.

Sarah smiles welcome to Molly, and turns up the speaker on her phone to make sure it's loud enough for everyone who clusters near her.

She brought the cookies up to Klaus and Angel.”Hey there, sorry I took off abruptly back there, This is exciting, I’m new to it all. I’m Lourdes, or Lu for short, have a cookie, home made I’m told.”

Craft peers out of radio room for a moment, "Hey, they're letting us talk on the radio, if anyone's interested. I'm gonna thank the town for their hospitality thus far... so c'mon in if you wanna become slightly radio famous."

When Craft mentions that, Sarah turns the volume up more on her phone. "I'll stay put: and listen to whatever you lot say." She's got the volume up high enough that anyone who doesn't want to go in can use her phone to hear the transmission.

When Craft mentions talk on the radio, Molly's face tenses. "Say something. With people listening. I'll, umm pass." She croaks out.

Instead she stays outside and listens to the broadcast from Sarah's phone. All in all, although the dance part was a bit forced, it wasn't too suspicious she thought, and might attract the right attention. Unfortunately.

Marcos takes his time walking around the building, keeping a careful eye out for any gaps in the security (if there is any security -- who'd want to break into some small-town radio tower, anyway?). He takes some pictures of the surrounding wilderness along the way, to make it look like he's just admiring the view, before rejoining Molly and Sarah. His attention's not on them, though; instead, he's eyeing those homemade cookies that Lu's toting. Tempting. So tempting. He idly wonders if the radio tower workers would be equally tempted... and if they'd spill a few more beans than they normally would once they're buttered up.

"Maybe we can bring some to the guys inside," Marcos says to Lu, jerking his thumb towards the radio station. "Thanks for letting us take over their station for a little bit, yes?"

As Denis ends his spoken segment and switches to the music, there is a sudden burst of a high-pitched noise, followed by a pop. It lasts only a couple of second, but enough to make some of the group cover their ears. The noise is gone as fast as it came, and there is only rock music afterwards.

Sarah yelps, and covers one ear - the other hand is holding the phone. The phone that is the source of the horrible burst.

She doesn't say anything, but there's a very clear 'What the fuck?' expression on her face.

Marcos nearly drops his own phone in surprise, but luckily for all who would have otherwise had to deal with his moaning and groaning later, it remains unharmed in his hand. Marcos turns to Sarah (or maybe the device responsible for that horrible noise) and, noticing her expression, asks, "Does that happen often?"

The door of the radio station opened, Craft and Rourke making their way out and exchanging thanks and goodbyes with Denis. "Thanks for the visit! Come back anytime. Oh, and if you see a woman with black hair on your way down, maybe remind her to head back? Lisbeth tends to forget the time when she's on break."

Sarah shakes her head and speaks confidently. "Nope. Never heard anything at all like that." She stares at the ground for a moment, then looks at Marcos. Voice now tentative, thoughtful, considering. "Do you think maybe it's like ... I dunno. Microphone feedback? Cause we're too close to the antenna or somethin'?"[sup][/sup]

She waves towards the door when it opens. It's unclear whether she's waving to Denis, Craft, Rourke, or all three.

"Could be some sort of interference. Electromagnetic or something." Molly's sounds a bit like it's on autopilot.

Or it could be whatever the Council picked up on. Remebering the recording they had listened to brought back some unpleasant memories, and Molly shivers a bit remembering them.

Rourke gave a small nod to sarah as she waved at them. He settled in front of the group, and then looked out over the area again. "Radio tower was interesting. Thanks, Sarah." Then he turned his gaze back on their tour guide, "Any next stops? Otherwise, maybe we can squeeze in some more hiking around the area."

Sarah grabs a stick and looks around for a soft or muddy patch of dirt. She makes a literal mud map which looks roughly (very roughly) like the one Atrus kindly attached to [RP:1a] Rosie's Diner.

She points at various points of interest with the stick. "The Harpes mansion is on the way back towards the Firs, and the campground is north of there. The falls themselves - the ones the town is named for - is between the Firs and the campground, and the hiking trail passes them."

"The mine and the mill are on the other side of town, but Mandy's place - er, the fishing place - is just down here, near the Harpes mansion. Well kind of." She makes a mark for the Brook Char that's along the creek, and about as far south (southwest?) of the mansion as the Firs is north of it.

Everything is west - and most likely downhill - of the radio tower. The town seems to go, if her map is correct, kind of north-south along the line of the river. Creek. Watercourse. But of course, it's a literal mud map, so the accuracy and position is probably iffy. Good enough to decide where to go with, not necessarily set in stone.

Sarah thinks for a moment, before adding "We might want to go to the Firs or the campsite, and get some rooms booked in or a camp set up; just to make sure we're going to have a comfortable place for the night. It's only around lunchtime, but there's nothing worse than setting up camp in the dark."

"Also: what do you want to do for lunch?"

After the pause, she says "Lunch options are the bakery, Rosie's diner, Mandy's - er, the Brook Char restaurant. I think the Firs might have pub food at the bar, but I've never really gone there so please don't quote me on that. Or there's whatever you're carrying, possibly best eaten at the Falls or the campsite."
